The Season of Giving

The Holidays are such a wonderful time. Snow, Santa, presents, beautiful holiday decorations – what’s not to love! However, this time of year, it can be all too easy to get caught up in the Holiday festivities, that we forget the reason we celebrate. While you’re taking part in all of the great winter festivities Fort Wayne has to offer, Montrose Square Apartments would like to take a moment to talk about some ways you can get involved and volunteer locally. After all, giving is the reason for the season! Let’s not forget to take some time this holiday season to remember those less fortunate. Volunteering your time is the best gift you can give this Christmas.

1. Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army

For over 150 years, the Salvation Army has been doing amazing things to help both the local community and globally. From adult rehab to homeless ministries, disaster relief, veterans affairs and more, millions of people have been positively impacted by the efforts of the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is also a nonprofit organization, meaning they rely on donations to provide for all of the wonderful things that they do. Each holiday season, the Ringing of the Bells is, by far, their most important fundraising event. You’ve no doubt seen the Salvation Army Bell Ringers outside of most department stores around this time of year, but did you know most bell ringers raise $30 an hour on average? That’s enough money to buy two bags of groceries for a family, or shelter an individual for a night!

Visit the Salvation Army website and volunteer to ring the bell today.

2. The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission

When it comes to homeless ministries, the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission is one of the biggest, most well-known ministries. The Rescue Mission is composed of four different shelters, all specializing in a specific need. From immediate housing to community meals, rehab programs, and short & long term residential programs for men, women, and children.

The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission helps thousands of people in the Fort Wayne community and is always looking for help, whether through donations or volunteering.

3. Gift Wrapping for a Reason

Speaking of the Rescue Mission, December 9-23, when you visit the Glenbrook Square Mall, you can take part in Gift Wrapping for a Reason! While you’re out shopping, you can enjoy free gift-wrapping. Donations encouraged and all proceeds will be going to The Rescue Mission.

Feel like doing more? Volunteer to be a Gift-Wrapper by emailing Brittany Corner at Brittany@therescuemission.net.

4. The Allen County SPCA

This Holiday season, let’s also not forget the many pets that won’t have a home or a loving family this Christmas. The Allen County SPCA is an amazing organization that has been providing food and shelter to homeless pets for over 65 years. There are tons of ways you can help, whether you can donate goods, volunteer to take care of the animals, or even adopt one or two! Who wouldn’t love the gift of a friendly, furry pet this Christmas?

See how you can get involved at the Allen County SPCA.

5. Homebound Meals

Homebound Meals is a wonderful organization that provides a hot meal for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and others living in the Fort Wayne area. The great thing about Homebound Meals is that you’re not only providing a nutritious hot meal to someone in need, but you’re also providing quality time and a friendly face to someone who might not otherwise have it.

There are lots of ways you can get involved with Homebound meals, whether that’s donating or volunteering to deliver meals.

This Holiday season, Montrose Square Apartments would like to urge you to consider volunteering or giving back to an organization close to your heart. After all, spreading joy is the reason for the season. Montrose Square Apartments would like to wish you and your family a very happy holidays and a wonderful New Year!
