Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner in Your Apartment

Some Tips for Making your Thanksgiving Dinner a Hit!

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, now is the time to get all of your Thanksgiving plans in order! If you will be hosting Thanksgiving this year in your Montrose Square Apartment, you might be wondering how you’re going to cook a huge Thanksgiving dinner right in your apartment. Never fear, we are here to help! Here are some ideas on how to use the small size of your kitchen to create a delicious and memorable Thanksgiving dinner!

Plan the Main Course

First, keep the menu simple. If you are choose to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, with turkey, measure the size of your oven and purchase a turkey sized accordingly. If you need more than what your oven can accommodate, purchase more than one small turkey. Be sure to thaw your turkey well in advance to make sure it’s ready to cook on Thanksgiving Day!

Serve food that can be prepared without an oven. There are numerous recipes that have been written for the slow cooker. Chicken and beef are two of the top choices. By using the slow cooker, you can cook the sides, such as potatoes and carrots, while freeing up the stove and oven for the main dishes!

Don’t Fret the Side Dishes

If you would like, let your guests help by bringing side dishes. This way you do not have too many dishes cooking in that small kitchen taking up space. If cooking the entire dinner seems like an intimidating chore, don’t be afraid to purchase some of the side dishes. Most grocery stores have a deli department that offers a wide selection of delicious side dishes, such as potato and macaroni salads. Plus, this will leave you with one less thing to worry about.

Decide if there are dishes that can be made ahead of time. Chances are, you can get most of the cooking done days before Thanksgiving. Simply, make up some deviled eggs, dinner rolls, or casseroles and then refrigerate them until it’s time to eat! Pop the casserole in the oven for a few minutes, and you are done!

Keep a Clean Kitchen

Cleaning up as you go can help free up important counter space that you will need for preparing food! This will also help if pots and pans are at a minimum. When you get done with one dish, simply wash the pan, and immediately reuse it! This will help to keep clean up at the end to a minimum, so you can enjoy quality time with friends and family.

As you can see, there are many options available to you regardless of your kitchen size. From all of us at Montrose Square Apartments in Fort Wayne, have a happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful for our wonderful residents!
