Organizing your Kitchen for Healthy Eating

healthy eating new years resolution

If you’re like many of us, you might have made a New Year’s Resolution that sounded a little bit like this: eat better, exercise more, lose weight.  How are your New Year’s resolutions holding up? As much as most of us would like to lose a few pounds, there may be something standing in our way — our kitchens. Don’t let your kitchen keep you from staying on track. Keep that New Year’s Resolution going strong all year long with these tips to help you rearrange your kitchen.

1. Get rid of the junk food.

Start by going through your kitchen and getting rid of all the junk food that you have — check pantries, cabinets, and the refrigerator. The idea is to rid your house of all temptations that may keep you from your goal. Don’t even allow yourself the opportunity to be tempted from snacking on junk food; just get rid of it. Give your junk food to your friends, neighbors, or donate it to your local homeless shelter. The point is: you don’t need it anymore!

2. Stock your fridge with healthy foods.

After you have purged your pantry of all junk food, it’s time to go grocery shopping! Stock your refrigerator and pantry with healthy foods – foods that you can snack on without feeling guilty: apples, oranges, celery, yogurt, etc. Fill your cart with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables — the more colorful your cart is, the better! One trick when grocery shopping is to stick to the outside perimeter of the grocery store. The fresh produces, meats, etc. Fill your cart with whole, healthy food opens and skip the inner isles that house processed foods.

3. Join a gym.

Fortunately, at Montrose Square Apartments in Fort Wayne, we are located just a short five minute drive from Planet Fitness. If that doesn’t make it easier to go to the gym, I don’t know what does. Nothing will help you kick-start your new lifestyle than going to the gym. Get a workout buddy to go with you for that extra motivation you need!

By following these simple steps, you can make sure that 2015 is the year that you finally stick to your New Year’s Resolution! A new, healthier lifestyle is right around the corner!
